Tutorial: Art Journal "Loved" Layout

2022 update bible art journaling faith journal junk journal tutorial: journal layout Jul 11, 2022

I thought I'd show you the process today of how to create this junk journal page. Please keep in mind that these products are not for sale in my shop - they are from other companies and by other artists. Every now and then I'll highlight an artist or a company that I admire and whose products I enjoy using. These blog posts are just for fun and to inspire you. :)

So - start with your journal or paper of choice!

For this layout, I started in my junk journal (which I also call a faith journal) and I chose this page with brick like scrapbooking paper. I placed a few washi-like stickers on it which have gold foil. I knew right away that I wanted to place the stickers under the "polaroid" piece, which is a bit of printed ephemera from a kit purchased from a company called Illustrated Faith.

I wanted to have a stacked paper look, so I adhered another printed polaroid picture under the top one. I placed them against the page and thought it looked a bit too bare and uninteresting yet so....

I found some glassine paper from the kit packaging (from Illustrated Faith) and stamped hearts on it in black archival ink. I then ripped that glassine paper and adhered it artfully behind the polaroids. I think it looks better now!

Next, I adhered this "cluster" of papers to the page. I chose to use my favourite Elmers brand dry tape adhesive (found at Michaels and similar stores) to adhere the papers together. You can use your adhesive of choice for your journals.

To finish this page off, I put a title, "LOVED", onto the polaroid picture. I created the title with a manual label maker (found on Amazon but I think Michaels has them too). Then I drew lines at the bottom and added some journaling. Simple but sweet. :)

Sometimes my journals have faith related layouts. Other times, it'll be a mix of sentiment, memories, quotes, documented moments and other things that I want to remember about my life.

Your layouts can be as simple or as complex as you'd like them to be. You have complete freedom to make your pages YOUR WAY.

I hope this inspired you to create your own layout! If you post something similar on social media, I'd love for you to tag me (@aglimpseofjoy) so that I can see it too and cheer you on.

Smiles, Heidi
